Risk has always had a questionable connotation since the word was first created thousands of years ago by the ancient Greeks.
In that ancient time it was referred to as “Rhizikon” which was a metaphor for “difficulty to avoid in the sea.” So risk in itself is a rock protruding in the sea of life waiting to disrupt our ship as it comes to its final destination, a goal or objective we are seeking to fulfill.
But as other countries such as Italy and France derived their meaning of risk from the Greeks, the Chinese had another aspect they wanted to add to their definition of risk. The Chinese symbol for risk is actually made up of two separate symbols for the words “danger” and “opportunity”.
These two words bring a more accurate and less daunting explanation to the word, indicating that risk does simply convey a danger of loss – but also an opportunity of success.
As humans, we are subconsciously aware that we must take risk in order to achieve anything worthwhile or meaningful in life. Now there does exist a large number of people across the world who just want money, fame, success, health, or whatever they see as utility to fall right into their laps without ever lifting a finger. Unfortunately life does not work this way. Even those who win lottery fortunes still choose to risk a smaller amount of money to gain a much larger prize.
Risk is just a part of life, and it is necessary or no reward shall ever follow.
This blog has no intent of rediscovering the discovered, for there are many resources on risk from authors with excellent educational prestige, who can readily demonstrate this.
This blog will try to demonstrate that risk is so much more simple to we humans than it is made out to be. That common sense and street smarts are all that are needed to navigate a world of randomness to victory, whatever your victory may be. No subject matter is off limits here and at sometimes my writing may resemble for random thoughts and chicken scratch – but hopefully you will see a new way of looking at the world we live in.
